Mama Guilt When Pregnant

I realized the main three niches of my blog are food, lifestyle and family and I haven’t touched on family in awhile. So I wanted to talk about something that a lot of parents may be feeling – I know I certainly was.

Parent Guilt for adding an additional sibling into the family (Especially when you’ve got an only child). When I first found out I was pregnant I was elated.. So excited to be bringing another wonderful soul into this world who would hopefully carry my values, my love for God and my humor 😉 But then I began to feel a deep pain for my Hudson. He’s got other siblings on his Dad’s side but they’re part time and he’s got his Mommy 100% of the time. It’s been Mommy and Hudson for 3 whole years and it’s been amazing..

But now it won’t be.. And in our situation it’ll be TWICE the sharing now that we found out we’re having twins. I spent many a nights crying myself to sleep.. It hurts to say but I was no longer excited for my babies anymore, because I felt like I was completely betraying my little boy.

But after speaking with other parents who had multiple children it always came down to the same answer.. Your heart finds a way. All of the anxiety and pain goes away as soon as you meet your babies and you realize you have way more room in your heart than you thought was humanly possible and when your little sees their new lifelong best friend(s) they don’t see it as a competition for your love (Well maybe a little, but not to the extreme you imagined 😉 ) but instead they see an exciting new chapter with new loved ones.

That has completely eased my mind. Hudson is so in love with my belly and talks about his little brothers often as if he can’t wait to meet them.. And because of the advice and my son’s adoration it’s completely cured my Mommy Guilt. So don’t worry Mommy, or Daddy.. It’ll be okay, you’re capable of tremendous amounts of love and the only thing you can do is continue to tell your little how much you love them and always will.

I’m supposed to be on light bed rest but instead I’ve been taking Hudson out and spending as much time with him as I can so he knows that even though Mommy is exhausted with these babies that he’s still important to me and always will be.

Parenting is the most rewarding and scary job in the world – But I wouldn’t trade it in for the world. So let go of your guilt.. You’re killing it!

Similasan Allergy Eye Relief

As an eco-friendly and all-natural home we try and use products that are full of safe ingredients because I fully believe that what we put on our body is just as important as what we put into them.

Now, Spring is such a gorgeous time of year.. With flowers blooming, trees budding and gardens growing – But the un-gorgeous part of it is the amount of POLLEN and sinus pain that comes along with it.

So I began my research on healthier alternatives to the standard drug store options since my children seem to struggle this time of year and I found Similasan. It’s a Swiss company that originated in 1980 and their natural remedies provide temporary symptomatic relief from ailments of the eyes, ears, nose, head, and chest.

We’ve already had to use the Allergy Eye Relief drops and they’ve been a lifesaver! At the end of the night the kids usually complain that their eyes hurt since they’d been outside for most of the day and it’s so natural it’s safe for ages 2+ so I don’t feel worried about giving it to them whenever needed!

We all want our eyes to feel better during allergy season, but many allergy sufferers are concerned about the chemicals found in allergy eye drops. Traditional over-the-counter allergy drops use chemicals such as vasoconstrictors to mask symptoms. Vasoconstrictors may actually worsen the symptoms if used more than directed (usually 4 times a day maximum). Similasan of Switzerland works differently, by using natural botanical extracts to stimulate the body’s natural defenses and target the root cause. Similasan products are made without harsh chemicals, so you can use them as often as needed.

Storm Boy – In Theaters Now

Sorry for my hiatus y’all – As most of you know I am heavily pregnant with twins and they’ve been threatening to come for weeks now so I haven’t been on my blog / social media accounts as much as I’m trying to soak in as much family time as I can before a huge change in our dynamic (But it’ll be worth it and I cannot wait to see their little faces!)

With that being said I’ve got a LOT of content coming at y’all this weekend, but I wanted to start with one that I’ve been really wanting to write about. A movie that came out in theaters two weeks ago that was so deeply heartwarming I have to share about it.

Screen Shot 2019-04-19 at 2.51.03 PM.png

Storm Boy, the movie based on a classic Australian novel has been so beautifully remastered and came to life on screen April 5th, 2019. Storm Boy‘ has grown up to be Michael Kingley, a successful retired businessman and grandfather. When Kingley starts to see images from his past that he can’t explain, he is forced to remember his long-forgotten childhood, growing up on an isolated coastline with his father. He recounts to his grand-daughter the story of how, as a boy, he rescued and raised an extraordinary orphaned pelican, Mr Percival. Their remarkable adventures and very special bond has a profound effect on all their lives. Based on the beloved book, Storm Boy is a timeless story of an unusual and unconditional friendship.

I am not huge into dramas but I have not stopped thinking about this movie since I’ve seen it. It was powerful, strong and had such an amazing message for families. My Husband and I saw it together and he hasn’t been able to stop talking about it as well – We’re very eager to take our children as it has such a valuable lesson of courage and love that I think everyone could learn from.

I highly recommend it to anyone looking for something to do this weekend, whether it be by themselves, with family or a date night… But don’t forget the tissues!

(I was compensated for this post but genuinely these opinions are my own, it was a truly amazing movie!)

Mile High Epidemic – Teen Vaping

I’m sure y’all have heard comments like this before: “Vaping isn’t nearly as dangerous as smoking cigarettes.” or, “It’s just water vapor – How can that be worse for you than straight cigarettes?”.

Well, these thoughts and ideas are filling our teen’s heads and they believe they’re actually making a “safer” decision by keeping to e-cigarettes. In reality, a JUUL pod (an e-cigarette cartridge) contains the same amount of nicotine as 20 cigarettes. TWENTY CIGARETTES.

Colorado youth are vaping nicotine at twice the national average and at the highest rate of 37 states surveyed, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. And, most recently, on Sept. 12, 2018, the FDA declared vaping as an epidemic across the United States.

How terrifying is that?! Colorado is ranked at TWICE the national average. As the mother and step-mother of almost five children that absolutely horrifies me. That could be one of my children. My 14 year old step-son could so easily hear these misconceptions and think it’d be “cool” to try vaping and then get addicted. Getting hooked on e-cigarettes could introduce horrible chemicals and nicotine into his body and within a year it could be a gateway into actual cigarettes.

There is little known about the long-term effects of vaping, however it is proven to have negative effects on their mental development as it harms their memory capabilities and causes depression. There is enough going on in our teens’ brains at this vulnerable age and we cannot have them stunting it with smoking.

This is not the future I want for my children and that is the reality of many teens right now in our state and country. So I implore my fellow parents and educators to cultivate their children’s thinking on vaping, even if it is not cigarettes. It Still.. Isn’t.. Safe.

According to the Tobacco Free Colorado website, about half of Colorado high school students have tried vaping nicotine and a statewide school survey shows 87 percent of Colorado high school students think cigarette smoking is risky, but only 50 percent think those risks apply to vaping nicotine.

As parents, we hold the responsibility in informing our children of the risks – even if they don’t smoke or have never tried it. It’s important to bestow the knowledge onto them.

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment has created a suite of materials to help parents and askable adults to understand the risks of vaping, and prepare them to have informed conversations with teens about it. The materials are available on the new Tobacco Free Colorado website at www.TobaccoFreeCO.org/know-the-facts.

(I was compensated for this post in partnership with the Colorado Department of Health and Environment. All opinions are my own and I truly feel passionate about this as my children are my world!)

KidSpace A Children’s Exploration Center

Y’all know I love to do local places – This is one I really love to take Hudson to! It’s fun, educational AND health conscious so wanted to share them with y’all incase you’re looking for some fun places to hit up during these cold Colorado winters!

You walk in and it just screams interstellar.. There are themed sections everywhere! You see scientific experiment games based on Archimedes’ work, a launch lab where kids can use different levels of strength to get a rocket ship to different planets, a ballistics zone where kids can run, play, climb and use air launchers to shoot balls – And SO much more!!

Wherever you look there’s STEM play and that’s an amazing feeling as a parent to have the opportunity to have your kids learn as they play! I believe STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) is so crucial for children, especially at a young age as it allows their minds to bend and flex in ways they wouldn’t be able to ordinarily.

They have hourly planetarium shows in an amazing blow up igloo which is so fun for the kids!

Something all parents can appreciate is the extreme cleanliness of the entire facility – I never feel as though I’ve got to give Hudson a bath after he leaves! Another parent pleaser is the amazing full espresso bar with delicious coffees and healthy snacks!

The owners are so friendly and passionate about their creation and they should be. You can easily spend hours here.. So if you’re looking for a fun, indoor place to take your stir crazy kiddos – Bring them here!! You won’t be disappointed and they’ll be begging you to come back!
