Mantra Monday – Paleo Eating

It’s that time of year for New Year, New Me mantras, and I’m all for it! Always try and be the best versions of yourself! It’ll make for a healthier and happier you! When I talk to friend’s who are trying to revamp their life with better eating habits and more exercise I always get asked, “Why Paleo? What is Paleo? Isn’t that a fad diet?”.

That’s what a lot of people think when they hear Paleolithic, just that it’s the same old diet that everyone fails and never likes. Well I’m here to help those of you who may believes those ideals!

Paleo eating is incredible. I’ve been paleo for 4 years now and I couldn’t imagine going back! The Paleo (Or Caveman) diet isn’t really even a diet. It’s a lifestyle. A change of your thoughts on food and living. It promotes the caveman experience – Living active lifestyles and eating whole, natural, REAL food.

The Cavemen didn’t have processed foods (obviously) but just what God supplied for them. Meats, vegetables, fruits, herbs, etc. etc. And in the beginning I know how hard it is to cut out everything and imagine how to go from everything you’re accustomed to making/eating to going down to the basics but it’s doable and it works!fruits-market-colors.jpg

 

Processed foods can be very detrimental to your health in the long run which it’s why it’s best to embrace the paleo lifestyle because eventually all of the bad ingredients in foods nowadays will catch up to you and can cause some issues. Of course there are times where we indulge and enjoy some delicious pizza, pasta or drinks (Outside the paleo allowed red wine) but it’s better than the alternative of eating bad all the time with a few healthy foods sprinkled in every now and then.

Our children even eat predominantly paleo because obviously we want to promote this healthy lifestyle to them and show them that you don’t need fast food to get delicious tasting meals. It begins with us as adults to make the change for us to make a difference to the future generations.

So.. My manta this week is New Year, New You – Try Paleo! . It can make a huge difference in your life and your families, especially down the road.

Happy Thanksgiving!

It’s that time of year again to stuff your face and eat DELICIOUS food. This year it’ll just be my Husband, Hudson and I (And it’s Hudson’s 2nd birthday!) So we wanted to do a low-key dinner and keep it paleo! I know that sounds ridiculous but our bodies are finally adjusting back to healthy eating and we wanted to keep it that way!

And although paleo – We have some MOUTHWATERING items planned. Looking for a healthier alternative for your dishes? You’re in the right place!

  1. Turkey as usual. We’re doing a dry rub and injecting with some cajun seasonings (Duh, I’m married to a cajun 😉 )
  2. Paleo Dressing! Recipe here!
  3. Paleo Cranberry Sauce
    • Mix and boil 1 Cup Water with 1 Cup Coconut Sugar
      • Once boiling and slightly thickened mix in 1 whole bag of cranberries (NON-FROZEN)
      • Once all cranberries popped mix in 2 packs of fresh blueberries and cook til softened! Then serve and enjoy!
  4. Paleo Rolls Made with Chebe Focaccia Bread Mix
  5. Mashed Sweet Potatoes with Maple Syrup & Rosemary
  6. Fresh Green Beans with Bacon
  7. Homemade Paleo Pumpkin Pie (Hubby’s Secret Recipe 😉 )
  8. A mini cake for Hudson’s birthday!!

These are all traditional Thanksgiving dishes that we tweaked to fit into our healthy lifestyle and we’re happy we’re doing it! It takes JUST as much work to make as normal dishes but we’ll feel fantastic afterwards! Oh.. And GO COWBOYS!!

Mantra Monday – Elimination Diet

What you put into your body is sooooo important. That’s why I will be beginning an elimination diet. I’m starting over because I haven’t been feeling well every time I wake up or just any time of the day for that matter! I’m going back to my paleo basics of meat, fruits and vegetables.

I will slowly begin to reintroduce my body to the things I love (That are still healthy) that may be causing me to have issues! People can have so many sensitivities to different foods and I don’t want to be the one who constantly suffers without answers so elimination diet it is!

I wasn’t even aware eggs could cause sensitivity so it’s good to do your research so you can hopefully find the root causes of your food-related symptoms!

So this weekends Mantra is When diet is wrong medicine is of no use, when diet is correct medicine is of no need.

Shoutout Saturday – Hidrate Spark 2.0 Bottle

Throwback Update: Just needed to have some parts replaced on my bottle and the customer service team was spectacular at assisting me quickly!! Love how long my bottle/batteries lasted and will continue to use this bottle! You can ask anyone I know, I seriously take this everywhere I go!! Great gift for Christmas!!

I’d been wanting one of their bottles so badly because they are so unique in that it actually has lights that flash inside the bottle to remind you to drink water when you’re falling behind on your daily goal; The goals can be manually set by you *On their free app* (I set mine to manually be at ~88oz everyday) or you can set it to the “Recommended Daily Goal” which changes your goals day by day depending on your location (Temperature, Humidity, Elevation, Steps, etc) **Such an AMAZING feature! So innovative.

Having the glowing reminders and your goal tracked really help, because it’s so incredibly important to stay hydrated and this bottle keeps you accountable. I honestly find myself feeling SO proud when I go OVER my goal, even if just a little! And I haven’t had a day yet where I don’t meet my goal! I’ve felt more energized, less groggy, have less headaches and just overall healthier since I’ve started using it!

The bottle comes equip with bluetooth that allows it’s users to connect to it via the Hydrate app – And also connects to Fitbit, MyFitnessPal, Google Fit, Withings and Jawbone Up! Makes me really want to go out and get a Fitbit.. I’ve almost gotten one twice now! All because I want to be able to sync it to my bottle hahaha!

I am so happy I won the giveaway and was able to get such a beautiful and high tech bottle! It’s made a huge difference in my health and life ALREADY. I highly recommend this to ANYONE! Especially people who are constantly on the go!

I’m back at it. Fall time (Honestly, anytime.) makes it hard to want to stay motivated with health but once you don’t feel like yourself anymore, health or appearance wise, then you make the changes you need and want.

Back to full on paleo because I’ve been sick for a full week. Why? My immune system is weak – I haven’t been eating well and have been drinking a lot of whiskey and warm ciders (So good though..).

But now I know what I need to do. I need to think about my health more – Mainly so I can have my energy and strength back for my son and be the Mother I need to be. For Hudson and for myself. So, this week’s Mantra is – Believe in Yourself!

Feeling Thankful

It’s Fall time – Which is the time where people feel like giving Thanks and feeling grateful (I still feel like this should be an EVERYDAY kinda thing but still I’ll go with it for this post). I have one thing that I feel so very very thankful for right now. And that’s Bodhi Body.

I’ve been really, really sick lately with still no explanation. But, I’ve literally nearly been tested for everything they can possibly think of so at this point I am assuming that I have the incurable Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. My symptoms lately have presented some extreme pain throughout my body (Mainly in my neck/head/back regions).

I was really excited when my appointment finally came up for my massage because I’ve been in so much pain and knew my therapist Tonya could help me out! She started working on me and I could hear the concerns in her breath when she was working on my back and spine. It hurt so good, haha! She focused mainly on my worst concerns and at the end of it I had absolutely NO pain and STILL have no pain!!

She said she found TWO pinch nerves, one on EACH side and there was a huge knot on the top of my spine where my skull met my spine that usually stemmed from jaw pain (I HAD been having jaw pain because I stopped wearing my mouth guard *facepalm*) and after she worked on my jaw the pain in my neck seriously MELTED away.

I never thought that massage could seriously have such a serious impact on my day to day life but I couldn’t imagine my life without it now. I am so, so thankful for Bodhi Body and my wonderful therapist Tonya. They’ve helped a Mama out – I came home with a new sense of energy and postitivty. Cusa Tea – Swapping Coffee for Tea!

As y’all know I’ve been struggling with some fatigue for awhile. It comes and goes and I believed it to be a Vitamin C deficiency but have still been super sluggish lately without knowing the reason why, STILL.

When I would wake up in the morning the first thing I would go for is a cup of coffee which in the end left me feeling sick to my stomach and almost just as tired if not more afterward! So I’ve decided to give it up and switch to tea to see if that’ll help at all. And so far, it’s been amazing!

I started drinking Cusa Tea as it’s an instant tea that comes in to-go packets which are so very convenient for a Mom who is always on the go like myself! Not only did I notice my energy levels go up in the mornings but I don’t feel as sluggish afterward and don’t feel dehydrated!

Cusa Tea is a Colorado company based out of Boulder (I love supporting local businesses!) and uses only premium, high-quality teas and fruits without any sugars or artificial gunk you see in other to-go packets in the stores! So I feel great having my toddler have sips! (Cuz you know.. Their stuff is not nearly as delicious as what Mommy is having 😛 )

They have a lovely variety of teas from black, green and oolong tea with varying flavors as well! (So far my favorite is the Mango Green tea! ❥)

I went to a health event recently that said that common coffees could contain Mycotoxins (mold toxins) that could be detrimental to your body especially if you’re sensitive to these toxins, but why would you want toxins in your body anyways?!

So I’m sure I’ll have a cup of joe every now and then but after feeling the way I have sticking with Cusa Tea and Stevia (I use Wholesome’s Stevia packets because of the convenience and it’s just straight Stevia leaf extract, no added stuff!) I’m going to keep staying on track with these in the mornings and whenever I need a midday pickup!

Try for yourself and see if switching from coffee to tea helps you with whatever fatigue, foggy-headedness, or grogginess you’re experiencing! You never know what you could use as an alternative to make you feel like new ☀
