Cusa Tea – Swapping Coffee for Tea!

As y’all know I’ve been struggling with some fatigue for awhile. It comes and goes and I believed it to be a Vitamin C deficiency but have still been super sluggish lately without knowing the reason why, STILL.

When I would wake up in the morning the first thing I would go for is a cup of coffee which in the end left me feeling sick to my stomach and almost just as tired if not more afterward! So I’ve decided to give it up and switch to tea to see if that’ll help at all. And so far, it’s been amazing!

I started drinking Cusa Tea as it’s an instant tea that comes in to-go packets which are so very convenient for a Mom who is always on the go like myself! Not only did I notice my energy levels go up in the mornings but I don’t feel as sluggish afterward and don’t feel dehydrated!

I love my Pouchee purse! It’s got the best stevia and tea packet holders 😉

Cusa Tea is a Colorado company based out of Boulder (I love supporting local businesses!) and uses only premium, high-quality teas and fruits without any sugars or artificial gunk you see in other to-go packets in the stores! So I feel great having my toddler have sips! (Cuz you know.. Their stuff is not nearly as delicious as what Mommy is having 😛 )

They have a lovely variety of teas from black, green and oolong tea with varying flavors as well! (So far my favorite is the Mango Green tea! ❥)

I went to a health event recently that said that common coffees could contain Mycotoxins (mold toxins) that could be detrimental to your body especially if you’re sensitive to these toxins, but why would you want toxins in your body anyways?!

So I’m sure I’ll have a cup of joe every now and then but after feeling the way I have sticking with Cusa Tea and Stevia (I use Wholesome’s Stevia packets because of the convenience and it’s just straight Stevia leaf extract, no added stuff!) I’m going to keep staying on track with these in the mornings and whenever I need a midday pickup!

Try for yourself and see if switching from coffee to tea helps you with whatever fatigue, foggy-headedness, or grogginess you’re experiencing! You never know what you could use as an alternative to make you feel like new ☀

The Benefits of Massage

As I’ve mentioned before I have been thoroughly enjoying my bi-weekly massages from Bodhi Body. But it’s provided so many more benefits than I could have imagined.

It’s corrected my pinch nerve problems in my neck almost completely. As soon as I begin to have problems arise again at all it happens to be right around the time my next massage comes and it alleviates the pain and weakness immediately!

Because of their work done on me I am able to workout again without problems in my arms and shoulders which is astounding to me that massage could have seriously such an impact on my physical health (AND emotional) health!

I seriously recommend anyone to just try massage! It doesn’t just feel amazing but also has so many health benefits – If you’re in the Denver area try Bodhi Body! Their therapists are amazing. I LOVE Tonya and Stephanie! AND you can get a free 30 minute massage with my code SIMPLY 😉

5 Facts You Should Know About Women’s Health

A wonderful blog post from my favorite local massage studio!

The Bodhi Body

  1. Women are more prone to certain health conditions than men. Women are more likely to experience depression, stroke and rheumatoid arthritis. Some conditions, like osteoporosis, are directly related to women’s hormone fluctuations and smaller frames. Others, like fibromyalgia, are much more common in women, but scientists have yet to figure out why.
  2. Women do not always experience the same symptoms as men with the same conditions. While men are more likely to experience a heart attack than women, women are more likely to die of the same heart attack. The reasons may be related to the publicized symptoms: while everyone knows about chest pressure and pain down the left arm, these are symptoms typically experienced by men. Women may experience dizziness, lightheadedness, or fatigue. Knowing the different ways conditions manifest in men and women can truly be a lifesaver.
  3. Women have different risk factors than men. Remember that bit about…

Paleo Homemade Fruit Strips / Roll-Ups

Y’all.. I’m OBSESSED with our new dehydrator! I’ve used it literally everyday! So far.. I’ve mastered jerky and fruit strips. Fruit strips seemed pretty tough at first and after a few epic failures we’ve finally mastered some adult enjoyed and child approved/LOVED fruit strips/leather! It’s SO good. This is just the recipe for fruit strips but I promise to share my jerky recipe VERY soon (My meat OBSESSED Husband very much approves of my method 😉 )

food-chips-banana-77029.jpeg

You can use any dehydrator but we really love our Magic Mill! It’s affordable, quiet and works AMAZING. Most dehydrators will come with a tray specific for fruit strips/leather. I begin by making sure my dehydrator is set at 158°F for 10 hours – I spray my fruit tray with non-stick spray (Just incase) and use whichever fruit is going to go bad! (Used blackberries in one but it was SO texture-y because of the seeds) So far, our favorite is JUST bananas! All you need to do is blend up whichever fruit you’re wanting to use and then pour the mixture into the tray (Ours have lips so they don’t spill out). The more mixture the thicker the strips, we like them either way!

It’s good to check it constantly but once they’ve been in the dehydrator for 10 hours (May need longer if you’ve used a TON of mixture!) you can remove them and let them sit out for about 5-10 minutes then you can cut them longways and make them into “fruit roll-ups” our kids have been LOVING this alternative to the sugar-y snack and they love that they’re “being healthy” for their school snacks!

It’s seriously THAT simple. And instead of spending money on unhealthy snacks or money on one tiny strip at a time you can make your own with any fruit you choose or any fruit that’s going bad to avoid ANY waste – And it makes a TON!

Try it out y’all! You’ll love having a healthy treat to turn to and your kids will love the delicious taste of their healthy lunch snacks!

First Friday Art Walk on Santa Fe

Sometimes it’s good to get out of your comfort zone. My Husband and I don’t go to Downtown Denver at night much anymore. BUT it’s such a treat when we do! When we went to Mmm… Coffee! A Paleo Bistro a few weeks ago we had heard from them about the First Friday Art Walk on Santa Fe (Where they’re also located) which features the art culture in Denver. There are food vendors, musicians, poets, artists, and so much more!

20170804_201053.jpg

We were intrigued and thought it would be a great adventure for us to go on together as a date night! So we got our wonderful baby sitter, got dressed up (Isn’t a formal event but definitely feels nice dressing up every now and then! Especially inside the fancy art galleries ;) ) and headed downtown to the Lincoln Park area!

20170804_203351

Parking was kinda a pain but we eventually found a ton of spots near Sunken Gardens Park and it wasn’t a bad walk at all! We headed towards the Santa Fe strip and decided to stop at Mmm… Coffee! A Paleo Bistro first for a quick coffee and a stuffed bacon wrapped date! It was just as good as last time and the owners even remembered us! How sweet are they!

20170804_201040

Once we were done we saw they had a HUGE line. They were super popular! So we stepped out and saw how busy it had gotten on the strip (It was amazing seeing so many people come and check it out!) and were eager to get in on the action!

It was just starting to get dark since it started at 5 but the street was lit up so, so beautifully – The lingering sun had just enough time to shine off of the many street performer’s instruments.. It made for a very mystical scene.

20170804_200416

There were also many artists in the street as well and they were all amazing! I’ve always loved spray paint art and there was an artist creating a piece for a little girl who wanted a city skyline. We loved getting to see something in the making – Think it’d be fun for anyone to see!

20170804_200741
A kids area for making their OWN art! How cute! ❥

The air was filled with amazing smells of all different types – There were Mexican food trucks, BBQ, American, Indian, Healthy, Gluten-Free.. SO many. Made me so proud of our state. We’ve still got some delicious food options or if you’re feeling something light OR something that’s specifically for people with food sensitivities, they’ve got it! If I hadn’t just eaten that wrapped bacon date I would’ve eaten EVERYTHING.

20170804_203031

As the sky was continuing to dim we walked around to check out all of the street performers before they left so we didn’t miss them. One of them was a VERY talented little girl playing the violin AND singing – There was a huge crowd surrounding her and cheering for her. I could hear whispers of awe coming from nearly everyone and it made me fall in love with this event even more. People weren’t coming out for just the drinks and food – They were truly coming out to support and admire the talent our beautiful city holds!

Once it got really dark we began to pop into each of the art galleries. There were so many beautiful and unique pieces in every building with the artists proudly standing beside them. I loved to walk by and tell them how talented they were – Their warm smiles were worth it. I had the chance to really speak with a few and get some photos with them and their art!

After we’d seen it all we said our goodbyes to the sights, sounds and smells and leisurely walked back to our truck raving about everything we had seen. We were happy we did something out of our comfort zone as it was a unique experience that made us feel closer together and more in-tune with our city.

We’ll be back as often as we can now and recommend any native or tourist to try it out and enjoy it for themselves!

Vitamin C Deficiency

As I’m sure some of you have seen I’ve been really struggling lately with extreme fatigue. I was very concerned as no Doctor could figure out the reasonings. Rest was their recommendation. Well I’d been resting a TON because I literally couldn’t keep my eyes OPEN. I knew it wasn’t rest as I felt worse than I’d never felt before. Something was wrong.

teddy-teddy-bear-association-ill-42230

TRUST your body. You know what feels normal. After repeated attempts of not being able to find an answer I decided to figure it out myself. I looked up what could possibly be going on (I know.. The internet can be a terrible resource) and after seeing all my symptoms on almost EVERY illness out there I freaked out. But little by little cancelled out each one I knew it couldn’t be.

I finally stumbled upon Vitamin Deficiencies (In the beginning I thought it was an Iron deficiency but it came up normal in lab results) and Vitamin C sounded like it checked ALL of the boxes. Great! I had SCURVY haha! SO I asked my Husband to swing by the store for some Vitamin C tablets on his way home from work so I could try it out. He was sweet and got me Vitamin C AND E because they were BOGO ❥

pexels-photo-263370

Since we’d been to Louisiana in May I’ve been really off the wagon with all of my smoothies, constant fruit, lemon water, etc. To rule out whether it was Vitamin C or not I began taking the vitamins daily and drank nothing but lemon water. After a few weeks I slowly began to feel my energy increasing and my need to rest was dissipating. Then I knew.. I had scurvy! ☠

pexels-photo-13915

It took myself knowing my body well enough to know I wasn’t feeling right and because I wasn’t getting the answers from my Doctors, I had do it myself and I did. I’m still (rarely) having symptoms of the deficiency but I’m slowly getting back to myself and it feels great. Soon I’ll be able to workout regularly again and just feel like myself!

Moral of the story – TRUST your gut feelings and help yourself heal! Also, eat HEALTHY. This has been a wake-up call to get back into my strict Paleo eating. Oh, and DRINK LEMON WATER. IT’S AMAZING! ‎🍋

Colorado Beef Council Event – Sponsored by Sprouts

*Sorry for my short hiatus! It’s been a really busy past week!* I recently had the pleasure of attending an amazing event sponsored by Sprouts with other local bloggers and it was a blast! I drove down to the Colorado Beef Council facility and got to learn all about the different cuts of meat, the proper way to cook them to my preferred temperature and the art of plating!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

The staff at the Council was so passionate about what they did and it showed in their pride while explaining their processes, their meats and their company. We were given flyers they have (That they even use themselves) that describe all of the different cuts and all of the best ways to cook them each. They also demonstrated the ways to cook them on the different cooking surfaces. (I prefer the grill.. I love the crispy grill lines and it just looks good 😉 )

They had some delicious mock-tails available – They were delicious! They showed how easy it was to create good mixers for your adult beverages 😉

Before we began our cooking we were shown the art of gorgeous food plating with meats, vegetables and especially colors and designs when it came to sauces/creams! I never thought of adding splashes like that to my plating photos but it’s brilliant! (A ton of the bloggers there were food related bloggers so it was perfect for all of us to learn!)

It was time for us to begin creating our own masterpieces after learning the best way to showcase, to grill to our preferred temperature and how to plate without it being too full looking on the plate. Again, Sprouts had sponsored our entire event (Thanks Sprouts!) and had an amazing array of vegetables for us to choose from!

After choosing our preferred piece of steak we grabbed the vegetables we wanted to use as our sides and cook them as we saw fit. (This was then going to be professionally photographed and put on a HUGE screen for all bloggers to see… No pressure at all! haha!)

Screen Shot 2017-08-06 at 10.23.41 AM

I love basic sautéed vegetables so I partnered with some blogger friends and we took up one of their many cooking stations and I began to cook my peppers, zucchini and mushrooms! Once they were close to done I threw my steak on the grill and cooked it til it was rare/medium-rare.

After my steak was done I topped it with a little rosemary sprig for color and dimension. I tried to plate as best as I could and actually loved how it turned out! I take photos of food I plate regularly so loved learning the best way to do so. It was photographed BEAUTIFULLY (I need to get myself a little professional photo box haha!)

Screen Shot 2017-08-06 at 10.23.51 AM

I got many compliments from my bloggers friends and there’s were all great as well! I cannot wait for the next Sprouts event – It was all valuable information to learn and as usual it was great having some time with my bloggers friends! (It’s nice not feeling absolutely crazy for once for taking 100’s of photos of one meal hahaha!)

Thanks Sprouts and Colorado Beef Council!
